Assistance Needed: GitHub Copilot Not Working After Installing Visual Studio Insider #173885
-
Select Topic AreaBug Copilot Feature AreaVisual Studio BodyHello GitHub Support Team, I was using GitHub Copilot without any issues in Visual Studio 2022 version 17.14. However, after installing the Visual Studio 2026 Insider version, I started encountering the following error, which prevents me from using Copilot properly. I have already tried uninstalling both the Insider and stable versions of Visual Studio and then reinstalling them, but the issue still persists. I also attempted signing out and signing back in, but that did not resolve the problem either. I am currently a GitHub Copilot Pro subscriber, and this situation has been quite disruptive. Could you please advise me on how to resolve this issue? Thank you very much for your support. |

Started having this issue just off the latest 2025 SEpt patch. Reverting patch doesn't fix it |

I get the same error in the latest vs2026, but it still works in the old vs2022 installation. I'm running a snapdragon computer - so it seems to be ARM64 related as many other also have mentioned. |

Same thing here. I have both latest 2022 and 2026 running side by side, and they both have the same issue. It all happened after I did update to latest in 2022 the other day. I then installed 2026 yesterday to see if that worked, but that also had the same problem. I also have VS Code running on the same machine, and that still works fine. So until this is fixed, I do like this: I am running on a MAC M4 pro machine (Tahoe 26.0), with latest Parallels Desktop. I.e. ARM64. |

If you are like me who already tried reinstalling there is no rollback option you only bet is to download the older 17.14.14 build from the link below. it worked for me. |

For anyone still experiencing this issue — I recently encountered the same problem while installing Visual Studio Insiders on my Windows 11 machine. What worked for me was performing a "Repair" installation through the Visual Studio Installer. After one or two system restarts, the issue was completely resolved. |

Looks like this has been fixed in the latest release:

At least in VS2026 on ARM64 (Windows 11 + Snapdragon), I can't reproduce the issue anymore.
